Webinar on 2016 CIF Survey on Faith based investing

This webinar is a summary of findings from the 2016 CIF Survey of Financial Advisors on their Awareness and Use of Faith based investing or BRI.

Following the 2013 survey on this same topic, research from the new 2016 Survey done by the Christian Investment Forum showed strong progress on the awareness, knowledge and credibility of Faith based investing among financial advisors.  The survey suggests the initiatives at CIF as well as other like minded organizations is changing perceptions in a positive way, and should be continued with the core Kingdom Advisors as well as with an expanded audience of advisors and investors.

From that survey data, following are the key takeaways:

Key Takeaway #1 – Awareness is Nearly Universal

The AWARENESS of BRI and what makes up BRI has grown to nearly universal familiarity within the respondent pool, but there remains a gap between that awareness and a more detailed functional knowledge of product and service offerings currently available.

Key Takeaway #2 – Knowledge and Credibility are Improving

The level of satisfactory KNOWLEDGE in BRI is catching up to the awareness level, as is the belief in the credibility and professionalism of BRI.

Key Takeaway #3 – Stay the Course on Message

There has been a sizable improvement in each of the key areas for adoption of BRI.  The key learnings from this success can be used to expand awareness and education programs to a larger segments of the advisory profession as well as with investors.

CIF Research – BRI Fund Composite Performance Webinar

This webinar is a review and summary of research performed by the Christian Investment Forum.  The purpose was to investigate and analyze the performance of the broad market of Biblically responsible investing, or BRI funds in comparison to the mutual fund industry averages.  Previous research has been done by other financial industry firms, consultants, and researchers, that has shown generally positive relationships between SRI/ESG investing processes and performance.

CIF sought to understand if this same neutral/positive relationship with performance also existed within the Faith based investing market in which the CIF Member firms operate.  The BRI fund analysis of member firms mutual funds in composite was compared to industry averages for fund performance broadly within the equity and bond sectors, and also within specific mutual fund categories.

The purpose of this research was to:

  • Engage the financial community in discussions about the positive aspects of Faith Based Investing
  • Highlight the professional approach of CIF Member firms in their portfolio management and investment decision making
  • Dispel the concerns of investors and advisors that Faith Based Investing leads to underperformance

Principles of BRI – What is BRI (Biblically Responsible Investing)?

Understanding the fundamental principles of BRI (Biblically Responsible Investing) is critical if it is to be used by advisors and investors.  BRI is not well understood, based on surveys of Christian financial advisors by the Christian Investment Forum.  Without confidence in discussing BRI, conversations about values and aligning investments will not take place.  Part of the reason is from the past – perceptions of what was described as BRI may not match what it is today.  Part of the reason is that BRI is simple in concept but more complex in practice.

This presentation seeks to begin to unlock some of the mystery surrounding the concepts and principles underlying Biblically Responsible Investing, from the viewpoint of the Christian Investment Forum.  This introductory 15-minute webinar provides the CIF definition of BRI, and introduces the core concepts (Screening, Governance, Advocacy) that underlie the application of BRI into an investment decision making process.

Additional training materials will be developed to dive into each of the core concepts more fully.
